Thomas Maxwell A Family Affair OverviewHousing Families Inc. is on a strategic growth trajectory. In the past year (our 20th), we completed the Cross Street housing development, re-branded our organization and received major support from one of the area's most prestigious philanthropies - the Fireman Family Foundation - to solidify our role as a leader in identifying creative solutions to end family homelessness. To mark over two decades of service and acknowledge some of the key partners who have supported us along the way, we are announcing our first-ever major fundraising celebration - A Family Affair. We are thrilled to announce that The Sloane Family, founders of Century Bank, have agreed to be the honorary chairs of our largest-ever fundraising event and that The Fish Family, Peabody Properties, Inc. will receive the inaugural Home at Last award. Why the Sloane and Fish Families?Century Bank and the Sloane Family have long been supporters of Housing Families. They have been dedicated not only to our success, but also to making the communities of Medford, Malden, Everett and Revere more welcoming for people and families with limited resources. They have been consistently generous with time, person-power and resources, and were our unanimous choice for honorary chair. The Fish Family, through its many business ventures, has been a major developer of affordable housing throughout Massachusetts for decades. In particular, Peabody Properties with over 10,000 units of affordable housing and a comprehensive social service support program, was a natural fit with HFI's mission. Under the leadership of Karen Fish-Will, Peabody Properties was our immediate first choice to receive the fittingly-named Home at Last award. The Big PictureLike all nonprofits, Housing Families competes daily for resources, access to decision makers, and opportunities to deepen and expand its reach. With the momentum generated by the past year's successes we are poised to build on our accomplishments. When done correctly, a fundraising event can be the perfect way for a nonprofit to raise its profile, attract new leadership, gain access to political and corporate decision makers, build a sustainable fundraising infrastructure and raise unrestricted dollars. All of this is what we are hoping A Family Affair will help us to accomplish. Organizational GoalsTo engage civic, business, political and community leaders, to expose them to the work of Housing Families and start them on a cultivation path for future contributions. |
