Who We Are

Who We Are

Housing Families Inc. (formerly known as Tri-City Family Housing) was founded in 1986 by community members concerned about the growing crisis of homelessness among families in the cities of Everett, Malden, and Medford. Since then Housing Families has grown into one of the largest providers of family shelter in Massachusetts. Over 1,300 families have been helped since we first opened our doors.

Housing Families works to end family homelessness in the communities we serve. We do this by providing safe, temporary shelter, creating affordable housing, and offering individualized supportive services to family members of all ages. We respect each family in its journey toward greater security and stability.

Housing Families develops new programs and projects, in response to the emerging needs of homeless families. Board, staff and volunteers are dedicated to raising awareness of homelessness and poverty, and helping families to move into, retain and sustain permanent housing.

Strategic objectives established in 2005 include:

  • Increasing housing units by 25% in three years
  • Expanding and enhancing supportive services for homeless children and parents; for families striving to retain their own housing after leaving shelter; and expanding access to educational and career resources, and
  • Strengthening our fundraising capacity and public profile.
